Flatworld Solutions Converted Building Scans into BIM Models for Renovation
Our client is a major corporation from Europe that was deeply invested in overhauling buildings and aging structures. They often undertook top dollar projects that demanded high-quality BIM models and 2D drawings that are immaculately done. However, one of the client's project fell out of their bandwidth because it had to be completed within a fleeting time.
The client's search for a BIM modelers brought them to us. Although the client was skeptical about outsourcing high-value projects to South-East Asian markets, FWS' consistently growing reputation was sufficient to convince the client otherwise. With two decades of experience in 3D BIM modeling we had already cornered a sizable portion of the global market. The client was impressed without our sound portfolio and requested information on the plans, estimated turnaround time, and the cost involved. With 50 projects and 2 month deadline, Flatworld acknowledged to commit its fullest effort to finish the project as per the SLA. Further, the client dispatched scan data of old buildings, Google Map aerial view images, and sketches (as a backup measure if the images were unclear).
The outsourced project wasn't without its set of challenges. Our professionals had to deal with the following hurdles -
The client requirement included 50 individual projects (1500-3000 SQFT carpeted area) where each project needed 10-12 hours of work to turn point cloud data to 3D BIM models
The client was keen to take delivery of models within a day or two
Some scanned images were unclear and posed difficulty for our team to analyze
Our team had to visualize the building in an architectural perspective
Flatworld wasted no time in assembling a team of experts who rolled out a strategy and commenced work in quick TAT. Our well-planned strategy was executed as follows -
Requirement Discovery and Image Download
Once the client uploaded the scanned files we downloaded the same from a secure digital storage. The files were replicated in PDF format for our reference
We reviewed the images downloaded at our end and requested the client for more photographs. Our additional needs including dimension and sections were fulfilled by the client
3D Modeling with Revit
FWS' team used Revit model to create highly accurate BIM models. The models were scrutinized for compliance
2D Drawings with AutoCAD
We used AutoCAD to create 2D drawings of elevation and sections whose specifications were disclosed in the SLA
Model Review and Submission
The finished models will be reviewed comprehensively using manual and automated quality control tools and strategy. The finalized models will be furnished for renovation & recreation
The Technology We Used
The project outcome was a success. The client successfully used our BIM models for extensive renovation projects without missing the mark. They achieved desired results without losing time and money. The client praised our effort and dedication.
