The client is based in the United States (Irvine, California) and distributes industrial products with a focus on reliability, accuracy, and precision. A well-known distribution example is one of the fastest ducting solutions in the world. The client has a 15-year track record that includes consulting for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) projects. They also specialize in integrated and custom assemblies for original equipment manufacturers (OEM).

Challenges Faced by the Client

The client needed service support involving MEP requirements for plumbing and electrical layouts within a 3-storey building with 150,000 square feet. One project requirement was conversion of electrical single-line diagrams (SLD) and hand sketches to AutoCAD layouts. Another major requirement was avoiding clash with other services.

The project involved the following challenges -

  • Lack of sufficient information
  • Unclear instructions
  • The number of drawings needed required more time than initially available

Our Solution

Flatworld Solutions mechanical engineering specialists developed the following solution to complete the project -

  • A team including a project manager, a team leader, and three mechanical engineers was created
  • The hand sketches and SLD drawings with architectural layouts that needed to be converted by the team to AutoCAD files were collected from the client
  • At an early point, the team highlighted unclear initial instructions and the lack of sufficient information provided by the client. Out of these discussions came project templates and new instructions
  • There were three different templates in the project and three different sets of drawings were developed with a specific template
  • Until the templates were created, the work consumed more time than expected
  • The initial shortage of time for completing the project was addressed by scaling up the team and creating the templates for improved time efficiency
  • The project manager ensured that quality standards were met and in accordance with client instructions
  • Project files were delivered via secured Dropbox to preserve data privacy
