New Product Development with 3D Modeling and Prototyping for a Leading American Urologist

The Client

Flatworld Solutions was contacted by an entrepreneur, with a background in both urology and invention. This physician required assistance with new product development. The client had invented a new and unique personal hygiene product for women that was more compact and portable than other competitors.

They intended to design, prototype, and manufacture the product in India for cost savings, and happened to find Flatworld Solutions in their search. They elected to use our services due to our ability to support their entire process flow.

The Problems

The product was one of its kind, so an NDA was required from the beginning. Flatworld Solutions would need to keep in daily contact with the client to fully understand the requirements. As this was a one-of-a-kind invention, there were no references to use for designing the item, so Flatworld Solutions had to consult and modify the dimensions of the design, which occasionally required changes.

Designing this product was quite challenging, since the level of detailing required along with the necessary aesthetics were very high. The design also had to match the ASME standards and material required by US law.

The Solutions

Flatworld Solutions assigned 3 resources to work on the design, who worked in conjunction with the client to develop 3D models of the product in SolidWorks. The team interacted daily with the client, which allowed them to make changes immediately if necessary as per the client's request.

Flatworld Solutions successfully delegated the prototyping and production of the product, and defined a regular reporting system to keep the client in the loop always.

The Results

The client was highly satisfied with the quality of work, and found that the Flatworld Solutions team had the knowledge required to complete the product design. The client and Flatworld Solutions team developed an excellent rapport. The product is still in development (planning to be released in Winter in the United States), and the client elected to continue to use Flatworld Solutions for other aspects of the product release, including branding and marketing.
