The Client

Our client was a BNUC (Basic National UAS Certificate) certified European photography studio who specializes in both ground and aerial photography, as well as 360 degree virtual tours. They have permission for aerial work by both the Civil Aviation Authority and the Irish Aviation Authority.

Client Requirement

The client approached Flatworld Solutions (FWS) with an image stitching requirement for photographs captured by unmanned drones. They wanted Flatworld to create a 360 degree virtual tour as well. Additionally, the client wanted hot spots to be added to the virtual tour so that a viewer could click on certain areas to be taken to the ground level for a better view.

This type of knowledge is rare in the photography field, especially from large teams at affordable costs, so the client was pleased to find out that Flatworld Solutions had experience with these very same services. Our ability to meet their requirements was the primary reason they selected Flatworld Solutions.

The Problems

The challenges associated with this project were directly related to the work itself. One of the reasons so few companies are able to handle this type of work is because stitching together images from a mobile source, like a drone, can be difficult. Any alignment problems would affect the quality of the final image, for example, as would any issues with lighting or color.

The Solutions

Flatworld Solutions first offered a free trial to the client for them to determine if the work was to their expectations. Satisfied with the work, the client gave their approval. Flatworld Solutions assigned three image editors to work exclusively on the project for smooth execution and fast turnaround.

Using image editing software such as PTGui and Autopano Giga, the team stitched together the images and created 360 degree panoramic images as instructed by the client. The Quality Assessment (QA) team ensured that every image was seamlessly stitched and was of high quality. Finally, the images were uploaded to a video player that supported web browsing to create the virtual tour.

The Results

Flatworld Solution's cost-effective and efficient services helped the client reduce their overall in-house cost and get high quality image stitching services at an affordable price. The images were stitched seamlessly with an accuracy level of more than 98%. Flatworld Solutions was successfully able to clear the client's backlog, and began a long term partnership with the client.
