To visit India you need an Indian visa. You can visit India on a transit, tourist or business visa.
For US nationals, a Business Visa to India is valid for one year to ten years with multiple entries. The stay on each visit should not exceed six months. For nationals of other countries, a business visa to India is available from 6 months to 5 years. A letter from the sponsoring organization indicating the nature of your business, duration of stay, places and organizations to be visited and a guarantee to meet maintenance expenses, should accompany the application.

You can apply at the Indian consulate in your area. For your information we have provided the links below. You will find downloadable application forms on these sites, visa fee structures, location maps, driving instructions and other details.
If you hold a US passport, you should get your visa within the course of a working day: submit your passport and visa application at the consulate in the morning between 9.00 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., and pick it up in the evening, between 3.30 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. or at the timings mentioned at the consulate websites.
You may also submit your application by mail but this will take 3 days to process and 2 weeks or more to be mailed back to you. You may send a self-addressed pre-paid return envelope with the application instead of paying the mailing charges.
When you make your visa application, remember that personal checks and credit cards are not accepted. Payment can be made with money order/certified check/cashier's check drawn in favor of Embassy of India/Consulate General of India.
When traveling to India, if you are passing through a country or zone where yellow fever is prevalent, you should have a valid vaccination certificate.
