The Client

The client is based in the United States (Massachusetts) and provides customized design solutions for interior engineering projects. They are experts in modular kitchen systems and have over two decades of experience in supplying innovative designs. Client services include engineering, design integration, project management, manufacturing, and industrial design.

Client Requirements and Challenges

The client needed a partner that could support their ongoing turn-key interior design support assignments, one of which involved 2100 US-based hotels. They wanted modeling support for new kitchen standards and equipment. The client provided photographs of the current kitchens along with kitchen equipment measurements, identification of unmovable structures, and details concerning counters, ceilings, and walls.

The project involved two challenges -

• Ensuring that the latest equipment would fit in the newly designed kitchens
• Adopting three standard layouts for the new models

FWS' Solution

• The team included an operations manager, a dedicated quality analyst, and 14 modelers
• Team members were trained in all design aspects of the three standard layouts
• SketchUp software was used for creating the initial layout
• The modeling team incorporated Trimble software to enhance the appearance of layouts in the next design stage
• Results were transferred to LayOut (designed to work together with SketchUp) and then final layouts were delivered to the client using InDesign

The Results

It required approximately eight hours to fully model a kitchen. This project shows how multiple software capabilities must frequently be integrated to produce the best modeling solution.
